About The Event
Due to the recent restrictions within Southern Cross University, we have decided to host this Sunday's workshop online.
It will be held via zoom and be a shorter course (3-4 hours) as the physical component cannot be practiced. Our hosts; Lisa and Mark from Empowered Today will present the information as well as a variety of activities.
This online workshop is a LEXSA Member-only event. Students must be current LEXSA members to register and attend this event.

We're excited to announce our first Empowerment Class: Self Defence for women* We're working with the team at Empowered Today to host this workshop. Lisa and Mark Evans, a wife and husband team, will be your hosts for the female-only workshop.
The goal of this workshop is for you to be empowered and equipped with a toolkit of emotional, mental and physical techniques to use, not only in potentially violent situations but also in your everyday life. Through a variety of learning experiences (including information sharing, discussions, games, practice drills and real-life scenarios) we will cover a range of topics and strategies that will help you understand yourself better and feel confident to deal with any situation that may come your way.

WHO IS EMPOWERED TODAY?
Empowered Today is a local not-for-profit organisation offering Empowerment & Self Defence training in the Northern Rivers area. We are committed to helping reduce the statistics of gender-based violence in Australia. ESD (Empowerment Self Defence) is a new paradigm in self-defence training. It has been developed by women, specifically for women and the types of violence they most commonly encounter.
MEET YOUR FACILITATORS
Lisa Evans: Lisa has over 20 years of teaching experience and is one of only three certified ESD trainers in Australia. She is a 1st-degree black belt in both Aikido and Goshindo and is also trained in mindfulness and relaxation therapy. Lisa's focus is teaching practical skills that people can use to improve their everyday lives and feel empowered to navigate any difficult situation they may face.
Mark Evans: Mark has been doing martial arts for over 25 years. He is a 5th-degree black belt in Aikido and 2nd-degree black belt in Goshindo. He has been running dojos and teaching self-defence for the last 15 years. Mark has been involved in Men's work since the late 90's and has received both facilitation and leadership training. His goal is to effect positive change in people's lives by providing training that empowers those at risk of sexual violence.
Simon Morrison: Simon is the only IMPACT-trained suited instructor in Australia. Using specially designed equipment allows students to use full force as part of the real-life adrenalin stress scenarios, where they get to practice the physical skills they have learned, on a real person. His focus is, "providing the best training possible while keeping everyone safe".
